Biografia
Walter Mikes vive e lavora come artista freelance a Vienna. Le sue opere sono esposte in numerose mostre in patria e all'estero (es. a Vienna, Innsbruck, Firenze, Verona, Zurigo, Londra, Parigi).
Nato a Vienna nel 1951, ha lavorato come sviluppatore di software per Siemens per più di 30 anni dopo aver completato gli studi in informatica. Walter Mikes dipinge regolarmente dal 1994. Dopo una fase di riorientamento, nel 2012 ha acquisito uno studio nel 14° distretto e si è dedicato completamente alla pittura.
Nello studio e in numerosi workshop e viaggi di pittura con artisti come Bernhard Vogel, Jos Biersack, Wang Shu, Emil Waldmann, Lisa Kunit, Siegfried Karrer, Gerlinde Kosina, Alfred Hansl, Robert Zielasco o Sieglinde Wagner si occupa intensamente di diversi motivi, materiali e tecniche pittoriche.
"Quando dipingo sono spesso in uno stato di profonda meditazione. Le mie pennellate non seguono un piano, ma la mia mano è guidata da sola. Osservo l'evento con stupore e mi impegno in un dialogo intenso con l'immagine che ne deriva. Poi il mio lavoro a volte mi sembra strano, come se non l'avessi dipinto io stesso. Spesso mi parla solo dopo pochi giorni e poi può accadere che io riconosca un tema che ovviamente - inconsapevolmente - mi occupa intensamente e che ha trovato la sua espressione solo in questo quadro".
