Biografie
Walter Mikes lebt und arbeitet als freischaffender Künstler in Wien. Seine Arbeiten werden in zahlreichen Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland (z.B. in Wien, Innsbruck, Florenz, Verona, Zürich, London, Paris) gezeigt.
1951 in Wien geboren arbeitet er nach Abschluss seines Informatikstudiums mehr als 30 Jahre als Softwareentwickler bei Siemens. Seit 1994 malt Walter Mikes regelmäßig. Nach einer Phase der Neuorientierung erwirbt er 2012 ein Atelier im 14. Bezirk und wendet sich nun ganz der Malerei zu.
Im Atelier sowie auf zahlreichen Workshops und Malreisen mit Künstlern wie Bernhard Vogel, Jos Biersack, Wang Shu, Emil Waldmann, Lisa Kunit, Siegfried Karrer, Gerlinde Kosina, Alfred Hansl, Robert Zielasco oder Sieglinde Wagner setzt er sich intensiv mit unterschiedlichen Motiven, Materialien und Maltechniken auseinander.
„Wenn ich male bin ich oft in einem Zustand tiefer Meditation. Meine Pinselstriche folgen dann keinem Plan, sondern meine Hand wird wie von selbst geführt. Ich beobachte staunend das Geschehen und führe einen intensiven Dialog mit dem entstehenden Bild. Danach kommt mir mein Werk manchmal fremd vor, als ob ich es gar nicht selbst gemalt hätte. Oft spricht es erst nach einigen Tagen zu mir und dann kann es sein, dass ich ein Thema erkenne, das mich offenbar – unbewusst – intensiv beschäftigt und erst in diesem Bild seinen Ausdruck gefunden hat.“
